KATHLEEN AND PEDRO’S HOUSE HAS been undergoing a major renovation for the past 2-1/2 months. It’s getting close to the end. Our friend, and now their friend, Santi, is doing it all along with his son Joshua. (It looks amazing.) Pedro is back to work, Luke (nearly 6) is back to school with Kathleen as chauffeur while she’s got 2-year-old, ball-of-fire Beckett to contend with. He pretends he doesn’t know chairs are for sitting, especially when dessert is served.
San Geraldo offered to cook dinner and we’d bring it over to them. We brought pulled pork, German potato salad, cole slaw, store-bought buns, and Kathleen and Pedro provided dessert. We also opened that incredible bottle of vino dulce (sweet wine) they gave me as a gift ages ago (click here). It was so worth the wait. Pedro and I both had a bit of a buzz. Completely casual and relaxed in their beautiful but not yet finished new house. We got home at 9:30 (which is usually when dinner begins) happy and exhausted. I don’t know how they manage.
This morning, I met with Jesica to resume English lessons — which is really nothing more than a couple of hours of fascinating conversation. We hadn’t seen each other for four months because she started a new job, but she’s got her schedule under control and we’re back to meeting once a week. We were, of course, at Mesón Salvador. Lulu stopped in to say hello and got to meet Jesica, which made me so happy — especially since they both sang my praises. It’s the mutual admiration society. Abuelita was there with one of her daughter’s and they came over individually and were introduced and had nice visits. Jesica has lived here all her life and her husband, Sergio, manages Mesón Salvador. She laughed and said, “You know more people than I do.”
We’re supposed to have rain for the next four days. I actually walked home from Mesón Salvador in a drizzle. Well, almost a drizzle. It felt so good. But, I think that may be it for the day. Now the forecast calls for rain briefly this evening and then again overnight, with lots more tomorrow. If you can believe it.

LA CASA DE KATHLEEN Y Pedro ha sido objeto de una renovación durante los últimos dos meses y medio. Se acerca el final. Nuestro amigo, y ahora su amigo, Santi, lo está haciendo todo junto con su hijo Joshua. (Se ve increíble). Pedro ha vuelto al trabajo, Luke ha vuelto a la escuela con Kathleen como chofer mientras ella tiene que enfrentarse a Beckett, una bola de fuego de 2 años. Él finge que no sabe que las sillas son para sentarse, especialmente cuando se sirve postre.
San Geraldo se ofreció a cocinar la cena y se la llevábamos. Trajimos cerdo desmenuzado, ensalada de papa alemana, ensalada de repollo, bollos comprados en la tienda, y Kathleen y Pedro proporcionaron postre. También abrimos esa increíble botella de vino dulce que me regalaron hace mucho tiempo (haz clic aquí). Valió la pena esperar. Pedro y yo teníamos un poco de emoción. Completamente informal y relajado en su hermosa pero aún no terminada casa nueva. Llegamos a casa a las 9:30 (que suele ser cuando empieza la cena) felices y exhaustos. No sé cómo se las arreglan.
Esta mañana, me reuní con Jesica para reanudar las lecciones de inglés, que en realidad no son más que un par de horas de conversación fascinante. No nos habíamos visto en cuatro meses porque ella comenzó un nuevo trabajo, pero tiene su horario bajo control y volvemos a reunirnos una vez a la semana. Estuvimos, por supuesto, en Mesón Salvador. Lulu se detuvo para saludar y conoció a Jesica, lo que me hizo muy feliz, especialmente porque ambas cantaron mis alabanzas. Es la sociedad de la admiración mutua. Ella se rió y dijo: “Conoces a más personas que yo.”
